We are pleased to announce that on Thursday, July 25<\/strong>, at 6:30 PM<\/strong>, the inauguration of the \u201cBiomaterials AR Chandelier<\/strong>\u201d (2024) installation by British artist Anna Dumitriu<\/strong> will take place at the Russiz Superiore Winery.<\/p>\n

The artwork explores how biomaterials<\/strong> and augmented reality<\/strong> art can influence sustainability and the circular economy in the wine industry.<\/p>\n

Inspired by the forms of nature and the Russiz Superiore winery, the installation reproduces a chandelier using biomaterials derived from wine waste, such as biotextiles, kombucha SCOBY, bioplastics, and bio-compounds obtained from grape pomace and vine shoots.<\/p>\n

The artwork<\/h2>\n

Dumitriu has created an intricate chandelier installation made entirely by hand using wine waste. The biomaterials have been shaped into forms inspired by elements found in the Marco Felluga – Russiz Superiore winery and vineyards<\/strong>. The shape of the chandelier is based on one the artist saw in the estate’s cellar.<\/p>\n

The work activates a generative augmented reality app #artandwineAR<\/strong> that offers each user a unique experience. It is also accompanied by a sonification of fermentation data produced by IoT corks<\/strong> in the barrels of the Marco Felluga winery.<\/p>\n

The IoT corks were created in collaboration with the Serbian company BUBAMARA-V<\/strong>. The development of the AR app was overseen by Alex May<\/strong>. Dumitriu also produced an open-source recipe book of biomaterials<\/strong> derived from wine waste. The project was created as part of the EU STARTS Better Factory: Internet of Art and Wine (IoWA) Project<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the early months of 2023, the Marco Felluga winery was selected for the Better Factory project, funded by Horizon Europe, which selects a limited number of companies to conduct a technological experiment.<\/p>\n

Anna Dumitriu stated: “I have learned so much through this project and am so excited to share the work with the public and chat with visitors about my process in the beautiful setting of Russiz Superiore.<\/em>”<\/p>\n

The artist<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Anna Dumitriu<\/strong> is a multi-award-winning British artist who works with BioArt, sculpture, installations, and digital media to explore our relationship with infectious diseases, synthetic biology, and robotics.<\/p>\n

Her previous exhibitions<\/strong> include ZKM, Ars Electronica, BOZAR, The Picasso Museum, Kunstlerhaus Vienna, MIT Museum, Liljevalchs, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, MOCA Taipei, HeK Basel, LABoral, Art Laboratory Berlin, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, the Sixth Guangzhou Triennial, and The History of Science Museum Oxford.<\/p>\n
